Neck Hernia Surgery: Road to Purple Belt

For a long time, I couldn’t train BJJ at 100% because of my neck hernia. The pain, stiffness, and nerve issues always held me back. Today, I finally had a Posterior Cervical Foraminotomy (Scoville technique) to fix it. I was nervous, but everything went well. Waking up without that constant pain felt like a huge relief. Now, it’s all about recovery, getting stronger, and coming back better than before. As a two-stripe blue belt, I’m grateful for this second chance and excited to get back on the mat—this time, without limits. The journey to purple belt continues! Huge thanks to my trainer Bart Aarts and my entire BJJ family from MATS for all the support—I couldn’t do this without all of you https://www.instagram.com[...]JpNmpyMw== |

As a blue belt who recently had shoulder repair surgery, don't try to go back too soon! I thought I was ready to try just drilling a couple weeks ago, but it was too soon. Nothing bad happened to my shoulder, but that was the single biggest hit to my enthusiasm to get back on the mats. It's easy to say be patient, but much harder to do. Hang in there, and make sure to get some extra shuteye while you recover. |
