"Yes? No? Why? Have you ever had a dental accident? If you have... Tell me all about it!!! Do you know the difference between a stock mouthguard vs a costum fit mouthguard done by a dentist? Do you know how to identify a TRUE costum fit? Some common accidents in BJJ:"

Yes. I wear a custom mouth guard from Damage Control. It runs just over $100. At least it used to. It's comfortable and doesn't restrict air flow. I've actually walked out of the gym, forgetting it was still on.
I've broken teeth in the past and it's not fun. There have been times I forget to put it in, and ultimately a white belt knees you in the chin and your teeth clack together, chipping teeth.
It's cheaper than dental work. Just do it. And wash it.

"I would advice to switch to a soft one, even if you dont go for a costum fit (which it would be the best) Rigid ones can be too much for a particular joint in the face (tmj) and for the ligaments of your teeth in the long run and in the short and long term your facial muscles will thank you."
I went from soft to this one and prefer it much more. I have worn a mouth guard for rugby and boxing and other sports and always had the boil and bite softer ones but feel this one is more comfortable. I don’t bite on my teeth like I used to, it is more to save the teeth chips now. No issues so far and it has been over a year now

Always wear a mouthgard, as soon as I step on the mat. All it takes is that wayward elbow or knee. Also, my wife's a dentist so I hear and see all the people who wish they had worn a mouthgard prior to their accidents!!!

I have not used one yet, and while I intended to, this thread got me to purchase one earlier than planned. A work accident chipped one of my teeth already, I'd rather not have them get any worse.

I always wear a custom mouthguard, made by a dental technician. Always. They last a very long time. Very cheap compared to dental work. ;)

I don't wear a mouthguard.
I don't have a good reason why.
Probably because I don't give a shit if I get a tooth knocked out or my face messed up.
I'd be ok looking like a jack o lantern.
I'm married and I'm not getting divorced again so my wife's gonna have to deal with it.
I haven't been to the dentist in about 7 years either, so maybe I'm not the guy to give feedback as it pertains to mouth stuff.

I always wear one. I didnt until I chipped my front tooth during a roll. It also has helped with my breathing.

Yes I like my teeth. When I was a white belt a heavyweight white belt elbowed me in the face and I chipped a tooth. I always wear a moth guard now when I roll.

Yes. I've had a tooth chipped and one of my former coaches has had an entire tooth knocked out. I have also bitten my tongue, so yeah, always a mouth guard for me.

Yes, I try to remember all the time. Seems each time I forget I chip or crack a tooth.

I would recommend a mouth guard be used at all times. Custom or not. You get what you pay for IMO.

I have a SISU mouth guard and I really like it. Molded to my teeth without any issue and it’s very comfortable.

"Get a custom fit mouthguard!!! "
Mouth guards in general are good to have in case of an accident, but they also really help surviving heavy pressure in bad positions.

I’ve always used the cheap ones, but after all these years it’s probably time to get a good one.

I have problems with jaw control, so I use the mouthguard to protect myself more from myself than from anyone else. Although I have had a few instances where I have been hit in the teeth, the mouthguard may have saved me even then.
